Due to the several earthquakes in Japan, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO), decided to extend the time limit for submitting documents from that country.

According to a communication on the Office’s website, statutory periods that expired after March 11, 2011 may be extended. However, for this purpose, the user will have to submit a petition to the BPTO along with documents attesting that the time limit could not be complied due to the earthquake events.

The petitions will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis.
