Judge Giovanni Conti, of the State Court of Rio Grande do Sul (South Brazil), ordered Monsanto to immediately suspend the collection of royalties, technology fees or any compensation on the marketing of transgenic soybean, classifying as illegal the incidence of such charges on producers. The decision was motivated by the collective action proposed by Farmers Unions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and by the Federation of Agricultural Workers of Rio Grande dos Sul State.

Porto Alegre – Judge Giovanni Conti, of the 15th Circuit of Porto Alegre, determined the immediate suspension of collection of royalties, technology fee or compensation on the marketing of transgenic soy by Monsanto, ranking as illegal the incidence of charges on producers. The decision was motivated by the collective action proposed by the Rural Union of Passo Fundo, Rural União of Sertão, Rural Union of Santiago, Union of Rual de Girá, Rural Union of Arvorezinha and by the Federation of Agricultural Workers of Rio Grande do Sul State (FETAG) against Monsanto of Brazil Ltd. and Monsanto Technology LLC.
