Brazil and France sign Industrial Property agreements

Agreement involves PPH to accelerate patents in two countries

The president of the BPTO, Cláudio Vilar Furtado, and the executive director of France Patent and Trademark Office, Pascal Faure, signed on March 15th two documents to strengthen the partnership between the two institutions in the patent examination field.

The agreement on cooperation in Industrial Property (IP) may include the exchange of information about the development of protection systems, stimulation of innovation, management, finance and quality, among other topics.

The Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot project will last for five years and will probably start on May 2022, allowing the results of the examination of the patent application at the BPTO to be used to accelerate the analysis in France and using the result of the exam in France to speed up the analysis at the BPTO in Brazil.

Companies and individuals seeking to protect their inventions in Brazil should be aware of this opportunity and consult specialized lawyers advise to verify whether their applications are eligible for the PPH.
