Cláudio Furtado

Of counsel

Claudio was a permanent career professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV-EAESP) from 1974 to 2022, where he taught Investment Strategy, Corporate Finance, Private Equity, and Venture Capital. He is the author of professional articles, a speaker at international conferences, and co-author of the books “The First and Second Brazilian Censuses of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Industry”. He acted as an expert witness in several national and international arbitrations, served as a Board Member, and specializes in Applied Economics to Business, Corporate Finance and Strategy, Investments, Private Equity, and Venture Capital.

He is a member of ABVCAP and a founding member of the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC). He is also a GFCC Distinguished Fellow. Established in 2010, the GFCC brings together organizations involved in innovation and competitiveness, government agencies, companies, and universities in over 30 countries, working together on competitive strategies and disseminating best practices to promote innovation, productivity, and prosperity (started in March 2023).

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1971), a Master’s in Business Administration from FGV-EAESP (1978), and from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (Master of Business Economics, 1980), where he also pursued a Ph.D. program in Finance (candidacy, 1982). He earned his Doctorate in Administration from FGV in 1997. His specialties include Applied Business Administration and Economics, Finance and Corporate Strategy, Investments, Private Equity, and Venture Capital.
